Projet de fin d'étude “Une maison pour une cliente” // Diploma Project "A house for a client" Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm, 2008
| The project is centred around building a house for a special client, a very small woman and her 5-year old daughter. The place they currently live in does not satisfy them and they are constantly longing for another place from another time. When the client was a child, her world was not like she experiences it now; in her childhood, up was not always up, but everything was upside down and inside out. One of her strongest memories is the day she stepped into a mirror land, into another world. She does not really remember if it was a dream or if it really happened, but it does not matter, because what matters is the feeling it left, this feeling that she is now longing for. | This is where I come into the picture. As an architect my mission is to create this world or this feeling that she is longing for within the framework of a house. The house I created might appear quite normal, however, on the inside it is not. You sleep in between the floors, you eat in the facade and you step right through the insulation to go from one room to another. Every day, you can find new spaces around, inside, on top of the house. |
This house becomes the client’s and her daughter’s reality. Like dreams and memories, the house is constantly changing, without following a certain logic. As a starting point I let myself get inspired by Lewis Carroll’s books “Alice in Wonderland” and “Through the looking glass”. At the core stands one sentence from which the project grew: “In my dream, my body longed to flow the other way. ”The key words for the project are just that: longing, body, reversed, inside out and the positive and negative.” |
